Summer Undercarriage Maintenance Guide

2025 07/29

Hot temperatures, frequent rain, and heavy workloads in summer can accelerate wear and tear on excavator undercarriage components. Proper maintenance keeps your machines running smoothly all season long.

1. Heat Protection – Reduce Wear

• Regularly check and replenish lubrication grease in carrier rollers and idlers
• Monitor operating temperatures – stop the machine if components overheat
Avoid long-term exposure to direct sunlight; schedule rest periods for equipment

2. Prevent Water Damage & Corrosion

• After rainy or muddy operations, clean track shoes and remove debris promptly

• Inspect seals and bushings for cracks or aging to prevent water ingress

• Do not wash the undercarriage immediately after operation while it's still hot

3. Tightness & Structural Safety

• Check and adjust track tension regularly – overly tight or loose tracks cause damage

• Tighten bolts and fasteners on the undercarriage to avoid loosening or breakage

• Inspect sprocket teeth for wear, cracks, or missing sections

4. Perform Daily Inspections

• Visually check for oil leaks, cracks, and abnormal wear

• Listen for strange noises during operation

• Use your hand to feel for excess heat at track pin ends

• Keep a maintenance log and follow a scheduled service plan
